The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) refers to uniform nomenclature of five security forces in India under the authority of Ministry of Home Affairs. They are -
(Q2) WHO IS ASSISTANT COMMANDANT?
Assistant Commandant (AC), is a Group-A Gazetted Officer rank in the Central Armed Police Forces of India. It is equivalent to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) / Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Captain in Indian Army.
(Q3) WHY JOIN AS AN ASSISTANT COMMANDANT?
Assistant Commandant (AC) is a Group-A Gazetted Officer (equivalent to Deputy Superintendent of Police) in the Central Armed Police Forces of India.
ACs in Central Armed Police Forces are appointed directly through UPSC selection process and are called Directly Appointed Gazetted Officers (DAGO). These officers can reach up to the ranks of IG and ADG in their own organisations without having conferred to the Indian Police Service.
(Q4) HOW'S THE CAREER PROGRESS AS AN ASSISTANT COMMANDANT?
If we talk about career progression, it is quite good in CAPFs. There is a very high possibility that you will retire as Deputy Inspector General of a range or Inspector General of a sector, if you enter the service at a young age of around 25 years.
Above that, there is only one position available to the cadre officers i.e. Additional Director General. There are very few posts at that level, and you can imagine how tough the competition gets at that level, very few do get to serve as ADG.
(Q5) WHAT ARE THE SALARY AND PERKS OF of AN AC?
The salary of CAPF AC is approximately INR 56,100/- – INR 1,77,500/-. With the job of Assistant Commandant, there will be additional allowances such as DA, MA, HRA, SDA, MD, TA, etc.
(Q6) HOW MANY TIMES A YEAR IS THE CAPF EXAM GIVEN?
The CAPF test is offered by UPSC once a year. But the exam procedure is drawn out and typically takes longer than a year.
(Q7) WHAT IS THE AGE LIMIT FOR THE EXAMINATION?
The age of applicants should be in between 20 to 25 as on 1st August of the examination year. SC/ST candidates are given a relaxation of 5 years and OBC of 3 years.
(Q8) WHAT IS THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA?
Students must be degree holders or graduates (degree recognized by UGC) to appear for this Examination. Indian students holding a foreign degree need to ensure that their degree is accredited or recognized by UGC.
There is no minimum marks requirement. Anyone who has just passed the degree exam can also apply. Applicants who are pursuing education and are in their final semester or final year may apply. Both Men/Female applicants can apply for the posts of Assistant Commandants.

CAPF AC can join NIA/NSG/SPG/CBI/IB/NDRF or any other organization, provided you have clean records as well as Shape-1 physical fitness.
Some organisations have different rules, some have 5 yrs service eligibility criteria for all deputation and some have 10 years service demand.
